There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that features numerous comforts aside from the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
